Attention All Cadets: Groundschool for 2019/2020 Power Pilot and Glider Pilot Scholarship Exams

Groundschool for cadets interested in applying for the 2019 Power Pilot Scholarship (PPS) and 2019 Glider Pilot Scholarship (GPS) will commence in August this year.

Groundschool is starting early due to the possibility that the Qualifying Exam that all candidates are required to write as part of their application, may be moved forward two months this training year.

We are hoping to get a few full days completed within the month of August, which will better position the candidates to write the exam should it be brought forward.

Groundschool class will begin at 0900hrs, running through 1600hrs at the Cadet Hall.

Dates planned for August are:

  • Monday, August 13, 2018
  • Tuesday, August 14, 2018

There will be no groundschool classes during the last two weeks of August.  Classes will resume in September, with evening sessions conducted during weekday evenings.  A schedule will be published and distributed with dates through the end of October.

These full day sessions will cover a great deal of material, and while participation is not mandatory, cadets interested in applying are encouraged to attend as much as possible.  History has shown those that attend groundschool and actively participate do better on the exam.  Groundschool will also be open for any cadets eligible in applying for PPS or GPS in 2020.  Cadets not eligible until 2021 or later are asked not to attend this year.

Cadets are required to have the following materials in preparation for a successful groundschool:

  • From The Ground Up (text book)
  • Pencils
  • Eraser
  • Notebook with paper
  • Ruler or Straight edge
  • a willingness to learn and work hard

Cadets participating in groundschool are not to be in uniform.  Civilian dress is adequate, as we want the cadets to be as comfortable as possible during class.

Cadets attending the full day sessions in August are required to bring a lunch, as no meals will be provided by the Squadron.

Blackdown Departure Information – Sunday July 29th

For those cadets attending Blackdown courses: Basic Sports and Fitness and Basic Survival:

Departure: Sunday, July 29th. Arrive no later than 7:45am. Bus is scheduled to be departing at 8:15am sharp.
Location: North side of the Pen Centre parking lot (Winners Entrance at the back of the Pen Centre along Chestnut Street)

You must travel in uniform (no tunic or tie). Please ensure you have your transportation form (in the joining instructions) and HEALTH CARD available for inspection by the Escort Officer. An officer from 87 will provide you with your offer of participation at the departure point.

Cadets Returning from 3-Week Courses

Basic Aviation Technology and Aerospace (BATAC) AND Advanced Aviation (AAC) – Parent Pickup Information:

Must be picked up in Trenton on Fri 27 Jul 2018 between 10:30 and 14:00 (11 Yukon Road, Trenton, ON)

Reminder for GT Pickup Tomorrow

Quick reminder that cadets need to travel in uniform with their health card and forms from the joining instructions filled out. Uniform orders are summer dress (no tunic or tie). Do not forget boots and wedge.

Captain Norio will meet you at the pickup point tomorrow morning.

Trenton Departure Information (General Training) – Sunday, July 22

For those cadets attending Trenton Cadet Training Centre for General Training you will be departing on Sunday, July 22 from the north side of the Pen Centre parking lot (the back of the Pen Centre along Chestnut Street). Please arrive no later than 8:10 a.m. The bus is scheduled to depart at 8:40 a.m.

You must travel in uniform. Please ensure you have your transportation form (in the joining instructions) and HEALTH CARD available for inspection by the Escort Officer. An officer from 87 will provide you with your offer of participation at the departure point.
