COVID-19 Update – 15 Apr 2020 (Re: Summer Training)

All;

BGen D. Cochrane, Commander of the entire Cadet formation (aka Nat CJCR Sp Gp) has made the decision to cancel all in-person Cadet activities until 31 Aug 2020. This include all in-person parade nights, CTC (summer training), Regional and National directed activities.

“[This decision] ensures the safety and security of everyone who participates in our programs and will ensure that the Cadet and Junior Canadian Rangers, like the Canadian Armed Forces, do not become a vector to spread COVID-19.”

I know I speak for everyone when I say that participating in Annual Ceremonial Review, going on the year-end trip, and going off on Cadet Training Centre courses this summer are activities we look forward to all year. I know this is disappointing news. For some of you, these are activities you have been working towards for your entire cadet careers. For that I am sorry. Rest assured, things will get better. These are challenging times, and yet, I know I can count on each and every one of you.

What does this mean for the rest of this year:

  1. All cadets that joined after 13 Mar 2020 will pass their levels, and move on to the next level as of September;
  2. We will schedule an Annual Ceremonial Review (in some form) for Sept/Oct. We have awards, promotions, and retirements to celebrate, and a year to close out;
  3. We are looking at exciting ways to continue to engage with our cadets and staff as we have been directed to do so by Foundation; and,
  4. Those at the National and Regional levels are doing the same.

As I mentioned, I know I can count on all of you to continue to serve your Country as you #StayHome to stop the spread of COVID-19. I am extremely proud of you all, and I am honoured to be your CO. I look forward to the day that we can all be back at the hall.

Stay safe,
