OPC Lottery Ticket Books – dropoff at cadet hall mailbox BETWEEN 6PM tonight and 6PM tomorrow

Message from the Squadron Sponsoring Committee:

Any outstanding OPC Lottery Ticket Books need to be submitted between 6PM tonight and 6PM tomorrow in order to be included in the draw.

We will be adding a mailbox to the outside of the cadet hall so that parents/guardians can drop off the ticket books and keep with social distancing practices.

Between 6:00PM tonight and 6:00PM tomorrow night (24 hours), drop off outstanding books in the mailbox (beside the ashtray) outside the main door at the cadet hall.

Any ticket books not submitted BEFORE 6:00PM tomorrow night WILL NOT be included in the draw. There will be no exceptions.

Message to Cadets from Squadron Command Team

Following is a message for all cadets from the Squadron Commander and Deputy. All cadets are reminded that they should be engaged on Slack.

Hello everyone;

We hope you are all staying safe during our break. Since annual is fast approaching, we need to start thinking about our static displays.

A static display is a group research project. This project can be done on many topics within cadets including survival, summer camps, the uniform, drill, leadership, aviation, marksmanship, history of the Air Cadet Program, etc. These topics are just examples. If you wish to do another topic, we are open to ideas. They are displayed at our Annual Ceremonial Review happening on June 6th, 2020. You can display your information by creating a bristol board. If you have any alternate ways of presenting your research, please ask WOI. Norio or WOII. Libby for approval first.

We would like to start creating groups as soon as possible. You may choose your own groups of up to 4 people. Once you know your group, you must select a topic. Topics and groups must be approved. You can do this by messaging WOI. Norio or WOII. Libby via Slack. We want to try and have a variety of topics so you will be selecting topics on a first come first serve basis.

Thank you,

WOI Norio
Squadron Commander

WOII Libby
Squadron Deputy Commander

All Cadet Activities Suspended until April 3

All;

COVID-19 concerns have reached the point where Brigadier General Cochrane, Commander of National Cadet and Junior Canadian Rangers, has ordered a suspension of the entire cadet program throughout the country for the next three weeks, until April 3. This includes all weekly and weekend training, recreational trips, and SSC related activities that includes cadets. I have included the full text of the order below.

The safety of cadets, your children, is of the highest priority to our organization. The decision to cancel all activities was not taken lightly, however, it was done so to protect the cadets, CAF members, and families.

We are currently slated to resume training after April 3 and we will update if and when that changes.

Stay safe everyone,

Captain Chris Bowman
Commanding Officer

CANCDTGEN 012/20

CADET PROGRAM CANCELLATION (3 WEEKS)

Refs: A. CATO 14-06 Training or Recreational Trips
B. CANFORGEN 039/20
C. 3350-Op LASER 20-01
D. CANCDTGEN 010/20

1.       In response to developments in the outbreak of a novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the Natl CJCR Sp Gp has CANCELLED ALL CADET ACTIVITIES, including local training, for three weeks effective immediately. Prior to Friday, April 03, 2020, further direction will be provided, including the potential for this cancellation to be extended.

2.       The National Cadet and Junior Canadian Rangers Support Group (Natl CJCR Sp Gp) has been directed to adopt an aggressive posture to minimize personnel risk of exposure and to prevent the CAF and cadets from becoming a transmission vector. As such, CANCDTGEN 010/20 was released on March 12, 2020 issuing amplifying direction related to the execution of Cadet and Junior Canadian Ranger (JCR) activities, and preventative measures to better protect CAF members, cadets and JCRs and their families from COVID-19.

3.       The safety and welfare of all who participate in our programs is always our top priority, as such we take very seriously our responsibility to protect cadets from any real or apparent health or safety concern.

4.       The Natl CJCR Sp Gp is collaborating with Department of National Defence and CAF as well as with other federal departments in order to maintain proper situational awareness on the COVID-19 situation in Canada and globally to synchronize interdepartmental response under the lead of Health Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada. As a result, the situation is continuously being monitored and decisions are made on a case-by-case basis.

Update Re: COVID-19

Good afternoon everyone,

In light of current events, I wanted to provide some direction as to what our local Squadron is doing regarding the COVID-19 virus. With that said, there will be an official statement from National Cadet and Junior Rangers Support Group (aka Formation) forthcoming. Once that is received, it will be posted on our website.

Locally;

  1. Current activities will go on as planned. Although you may have heard that International recreational trips are currently suspended by Formation until April 20th, this does not affect any of our activities locally, or regionally.
  2. If you are sick, stay home. We ask that all cadets, parents, and visitors to please stay home if not feeling well. That includes a cough or a fever. This is good practice all the time. Cadets can use this form to request an excused absence, and will not be penalized for their absence.
  3. Hand sanitizer is available at the front door when you enter the building. We ask all cadets and visitors to use this as they enter the building, or to promptly wash their hands in the bathrooms.
  4. Prevention is key, proper hand washing technique (20 seconds with warm water and soap) is our best defence for any virus. This is especially important before eating.

In lighter news, we are looking forward to a successful CO Parade tonight. Parents/guardians picking up their cadets are invited to come early (8:15PM) to observe.

See everyone tonight.
