Announcements for the Week of April 30

There are a lot of updates this week, including three for Wednesday and information for the upcoming exercise this weekend, please read carefully:

1. Drill Team – Tuesday 1900hrs to 2030hrs

Bring wedge and boots, prepare to go outside.

2. Parade Night – Wednesday

Prepare to go outside if the weather permits.

3. Sponsoring Committee AGM – Wednesday @ 1830hrs

AGM: Parents are invited to the Parents Squadron Sponsoring Committee Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, it is at the Airport Administration Building (trailer on the main Airport entrance next to our entrance off Riverside, if you need directions, stop by the hall first). This meeting is very important as annual elections for SSC positions take place.

4. Big Red Meats Orders for Pickup – Wednesday @1800hrs sharp

All orders are in for the Big Red Meats fundraiser, please pick up BEFORE the AGM. Orders will be ready for 1800hrs.

5. NAG FTX – Friday @1700hrs sharp to Sunday @1600hrs

  1. Please see the full permission slip for details. It is very important that you read the permission slip and kit list, sign, and bring the permission slip with your cadet. Cadets without their permission slips and health cards will not be able to board the bus on Friday.
  2. We will not be eating dinner on Friday night, only light snacks will be provided, so make sure to eat dinner before boarding the bus.
  3. In case you need to contact your cadet: Parents that need to contact their cadet throughout the weekend are encouraged to email 87squadron@gmail.com. There will be a phone for emergency use only which goes directly to the officer in charge: 289-783-1942. All other issues, please email instead.
  4. Drop-off: Friday, 5:00pm – Cadets to be dropped off at Centennial High School (240 Thorold Rd, Welland, ON L3C 3W1). You must be in possession of your health card and have had supper.
  5. Pick-up: Sunday, 4:00pm – Cadets to be picked up at Centennial High School.
  6. We will be training rain or shine (hopefully shine), but either way, cadets MUST be prepared for the weather. A wet, soggy cadet, with improper footwear, clothing, rain gear, and sleeping gear will not be happy, and will be sent home.
  7. We are sleeping outside in tents provided by 87.

Sports Competition Bus Timings (Update)

Dropoff at the Cadet Hall (LHQ):

I am expecting the pickup might be later than 4:00pm tomorrow. I will post on the website when the award ceremony starts at the end of the day tomorrow effectively giving everyone a 45 minute heads up as to when we will be back in Welland.

Early Pickup:
If any cadets needs to be picked up early tomorrow, we will be at the Dunnville Secondary School. Cadets must have permission and check in with me (Lt. Bowman) before they are allowed to leave the school for any reason.

Reminder about Health Cards:
Also remember all cadets MUST have health cards and water bottles with them to board the bus.

Reminders for this Week

Drill Team Tonight from 1900-2030hrs

Please bring your boots and wedge. All drill team members are strongly encouraged to attend practice every week until drill competition. If for any reason you can not make the practice please let F/Sgt Kalenuik or CI Silva know.

Regular Parade Night This Week

Remember to work on uniforms this week. Boots and haircuts need work. Take pride in your uniform.

Sports Competition – This Saturday from 0645hrs to 1600hrs

The annual NAG Sports Competition is this Saturday from 0645hrs to 1600hrs. The bus is leaving from 87 LHQ at 0700hrs.

Cadets are to bring:

  • Water bottle
  • Sports attire
  • Running shoes
  • Health card

Niagara Cadet Gala – Saturday February 10th @ 1730hrs (Ticket money DUE TOMORROW)

The annual Niagara Cadet Gala for all Air, Sea, and Army cadets in the Niagara region is on Saturday February 10th! This optional semi-formal activity is organized by the fine officers and staff of 128 Thorold Squadron and is open to all cadets.

The gala will feature live piano music throughout dinner, and a fun masquerade ball theme. This is a great event to meet new cadets from all over Niagara, dress up, eat, and have fun!

Timing: Saturday February 10th @ 1730hrs (end time to be announced)
Location: Lake Street Armoury (81 Lake St, St. Catharines)
Theme: Masquerade Ball
Dress: Semi-Formal with optional, masquerade style masks OR C8 Mess Dress without masks.
Cost: $25/cadet

Tickets are $25/cadet, and due this week.
